Denison High School Football Blog Week Three
DHS beat Dallas Madison, 36-27, for its first victory of the season. (1-2)
How do you think the team played Friday night?
WHITE: I think we played well in the first half offensively; we played well defensively all game. On offense, we still need some improvement and we have special team issues. We have things to work on.
What about Jordan Watson? He played running back for the first time this game.
WHITE: Oh, Jordan’s a good athlete. He played very well at the running back position. He made some mistakes, but he played hard. He can make things happen.
NOTE: Watson worked as quarterback in 2010; and started this season as wide receiver.
Late in the game, Watson came out due to injury. How is the senior doing?
WHITE: He had a hip pointer. He’ll be okay.
Is this the direction you are going offensively with Watson?
WHITE: Yes, we are going with him the rest of the way.
What about the Offensive Line play against DallasMadison?
WHITE: The O-line played well. We made some protection mistakes but our run blocking was really good.
What about the quarterbacks? (Clifton Hines and Rian Conrad)
WHITE: Well, we played mostly Clifton Friday night. He played well. He ran well; he saw the field. Experience will help him adjust and improve.
On the defensive side, how did the defense do overall?
WHITE: They played well. They did a nice job upfront. We eliminated the big plays. Madison scored on an interception and a couple short fields but overall we did a good job defensively.
Any defensive players you want to commend?
WHITE: Hayden Chapmen did a good job; Richard McKinney did, too. Our defensive line upfront did a great job.
Your last non-district game is this Friday night against Little Elm. How do you match up with them?
WHITE: They are extremely good offensively; they have a great quarterback and a solid defense. They run the ball hard.
What do you have to do to be successful against Little Elm?
WHITE: We have to score; keep positions and deep our defense off the field. And stop their quarterback.
Friday night is Homecoming at Denison. Does this affect your game plan from a coach’s point of view?
WHITE: No. It will be a packed house, but it always is. Our kids always play well at home and at homecoming. It will be a good game.
