Sherman Football Coach Gary Kinne will join to share his thoughts and observations on his team throughout the 2010 season. Each week, you'll receive a breakdown of the previous game, the positives that stood out, the areas of improvement, the upcoming game on the schedule and more, straight from Coach Kinne!

Here is blog #7, focusing last week's win over Texarkana Texas High and the upcoming game against Royse City.

Sherman_Bearcats_Logo.jpg* Starting with the victory over Texas High in Texarkana, it was obviously a big win.  It put us to 3-0 in district.  Texas High has got a great program and we were really happy with our win.  I thought the kids played really well, especially in the second half.

* The biggest positive was that we rallied.  We got behind and we were behind at halftime.  We came out in the second half and made up that deficit.  I really liked our kids’ resilience in the second half, in proving that we could win in the second half.

* Here are some negatives: We dropped too many balls and we had a couple of turnovers.  We need to work on those two areas.  Overall, we need to work on penalties.  We still get too many penalties.

* Nathan James had a tremendous game.  Obviously, he had a big night.  He scored the game-winning touchdown.  He had over 100 yards receiving and some good kickoff returns, but he also had a fake punt.  He took it for the first down, 20 yards.  He also played defense so he had a big night.

* I know it’s not going to get any easier moving forward. I think our opponents probably respect us.  They definitely prepare for us so we get everybody’s best efforts.  That’s a compliment to our program.  We’ve just got to prepare and make sure we don’t have any slip ups.
* I think we’re in a good place as a team.  We’re coming off of a good win.  We’ve beaten two of the top teams in the district in consecutive weeks.  They are very good football programs so I think we’re very confident heading into the final stages of district.

* Up next, we play Royce City at home.  We always like to play at home.  Royse City has got a good football team and they’re just coming off of a victory over Denison.  They’re in line for the third or fourth playoff spot.  They’re a team that we don’t need to take lightly.  We need to come out and be ready to play.
