Denison Coach's Blog 12 2018

The Denison Yellowjackets just missed the playoffs as they finished fifth in district according to tie-breakers; they had a record of 6-4. They ended the season with a 44-7 victory over Denton Braswell last week.

What about the Braswell game?

“It was one of our best games of the season; we played well. The offense got going in the second half. We moved the ball and got into the endzone.”

What about quarterback, Cade Gordy?

“Cade played one of his best games as a Yellowjacket. He played both ways (QB, Safety); and Zalon Whimbish filled in some at quarterback for us.”

What about the offense overall?

“We had about 600 yards of offense; and J.D. Price went for 227 yards rushing. We had a nice game.”

What about the defense?

“We held them to seven points and forced two turnovers. We played a solid game. Our kick game was solid, too.”

What about the outcome for the playoffs?

“It was extremely sad for the kids; they played hard all year. We thought we had it, but you just can’t leave it in the hands of others. Out of nine teams, we were in the mix all year. We just needed to take care of business a little better.”

How does the program look overall and how is next year shaping up?

“It looks good; every team in our program from seventh grade on up had a winning season. We will have seven returning starters on offense and six on defense. This will set us up well for next season. We will be in this same district; and we will be in the mix again.”

What is the team doing now that the season is over?

“We started our off-season program Wednesday; getting ready for next year. We are working to get our ‘maxes’ in weightlifting. We want to get organized. We’ve got over 110 athletes in our program.”

This finishes your seventh season with the Jackets. How does the program look?

“We have more players in the football program than we’ve ever had; we have a big freshman class coming in next fall. We have been 36-37 including playoffs since I’ve been here; and we are looking to improve on that.”
