The Denison Yellowjackets are coming off a tough district loss, 45-20, to leading Frisco Reedy. The Jackets prepare to rebound against Princeton Friday at Munson Stadium. Go Jackets!
What did you think of the game last week against Reedy?
“At times, I thought some good came out of it. They are really good; and we can learn from this game.”
How do you think the offense did overall?
“When we trusted each other, we got some things done. When we didn’t, we couldn’t move the ball.”
How did quarterback, Cade Gowdy, do in the game?
“He did well overall; he will get a lot better because of this game. He learned a lot from them.”
What about the running game?
“Well, coming in, Reedy hadn’t let opposing teams rush 100 yards total yet (three games). We had over 200 yards rushing in our game against them. We did a lot of good in the running game.”
What about your defense?
“There were a few stretches that we played well; we’ve just got to tackle. We need consistency.”
How do you feel at this point in district (1-1 with six games to go)?
“We’d rather be 2-0, but after this loss, we have bounced back this week. We want to do something special; and we still can. We’ve had a good week of practice and that tells me the team is ready to get back on track.”
You play Princeton for Homecoming this week. What type of team do they have?
“This is their first season in Class 5A; they’ve had a lot of success at 4A. They are very well coached and athletic. Their quarterback can throw it around a lot. They are sound on defense.”
What will it take to win?
“We’ve got to get our offense going early; make some first downs. We need a few big plays and we need our kicking game to come up big, too. We need to block and tackle.”
Does this game have any significance where it is in the schedule?
“No, Princeton is a good team; well coached. It will be a good test for us. We will be ready.”
