Sherman Coach's Blog Off Season 7 2018

Sherman Coach’s Blog Off Season 7 2018
The Sherman Bearcats are finished with the summer’s strength and conditioning camp this week as they get ready for fall practice on Monday. A young team, but Go Cats!!!
How did the strength and conditioning camp go this summer?
“It went great! The players are doing good; working hard. I think they are maturing. I am pleased with their effort both in the off-season and this summer.”
Just at a glance, how does the team look for 2018?
“They look good; we are young. And we are going to have to get right into it and make some noise.”
How is the quarterback position shaping up?
“Our returning starter, Blaze Benson, is there, but Tate Bethel is giving him a run for his money. There is a good competition going on.”
What about the offense overall?
“Like I said, we are young, but it really shows on offense. We only have two returning starters from last year.”
What about skill position players?
“Our receivers are all new; we have two or three sophomores we’re looking at. At running back, we will be brand new. We are going to introduce a lot of kids to Friday night this season.”
What about the defense?
“We have four guys back on defense. We will be young there, too, but they are a good group. I hope to see a lot from them. We’re going to go play and mix it up.”
This is the first year of the new realignment. What do you think of the new district?
“For football, it is tough. There is no other way to say it. It will be a challenge for us, and we won’t be backing away from it. We have metroplex schools, Tyler schools and others that are the best in the state.”
And to start it all off, you have the “Battle of the Axe” the very first game. How about that one?
“It is four weeks from today; and we will be ready for Denison.”
The Bearcats will be in action in their first scrimmage Aug. 17 against Sanger at Bearcat Stadium. The junior varsity starts at 6 p.m. and the varsity at 7:30 p.m.
