Denison Coach's Blog Off Season 3 2018

Denison Coach’s Blog Off Season 4 2018
The Yellow Jackets are into their off season program. Coach Chad Rogers is pleased with the progress so far. The upcoming season looks to be an interesting one. Go Jackets!!!
How is the Off Season Program going so far this year?
“It is going well; it is smooth. We are in Phase 2 where we go into more football activities.”
What do you do during those new activities?
“One day we work on offense and one day per week we work on defense. We are always doing agility and lifting all week.”
When did Phase 2 begin?
“We started Feb. 20 right after President’s Day.”
The new alignment was announced Feb. 1 by the UIL. How does it look for Denison?
“I like it. There are some new faces and new places to go. We are excited. There are four teams from Frisco in our new district. Two of them are brand new schools that will open in the fall (Memorial and Lebanon Trail).”
That’s unique; do you have to prepare any differently for such schools? You did it with Denton Braswell two years ago.
“You prepare like any other time; you have to get ready to play.”
What about the other schools in the new district?
“Princeton’s really good; Lake Dallas won two playoff games last season. Lovejoy is always good. Braswell is getting better each year. It will be a challenge.”
How many athletes do you have in the football program?
“We have 110 upperclassmen plus the incoming freshmen in the fall.”
What is the general mood in the locker room here in the middle of the off season?
“We have a great attitude; we are ready to go. They want to play football games right now.”
That will start before we know it with the Battle of the Axe starting off the season in late August. How does that feel to be playing that important game so early?
“It will be fine; once we get used to the idea. It will be the first game for both teams. We’ve played it in the middle of the season and at the end of the season; and now, we have to put it at the beginning. One thing I know is that we’ll be ready to play.”
