The Denison Yellowjackets go into their toughest game Friday against No. 3 Denton Ryan; the game is at Munson Stadium and the district championship is at stake. Go DHS!
How did last week’s game against Denton Braswell go?
“The kids performed well; they took care of business (a 56-0 win). We kept coaching them all the way through; the game wasn’t in jeopardy, but all those kids deserved to be in there. We got a whole lot of kids in this game.”
How did the offense do?
“Overall, we had some glitches, but we overcame them. We got rolling.”
What about QB Austin Emery?
“He played well; he threw to the open receivers. He checked down at the line of scrimmage; this is important.”
What about the running game?
“We played well; when you run the ball, you control the clock.”
How about the passing game?
“We did well; we got open. The play action was particularly effective. That happens when you have the run game going.”
What about that defense?
“We shut them out; that’s the first one since I’ve been here (six seasons). We held them to a low amount of first downs, too. Our D-line put the pressure on the quarterback.”
How about the defensive backfield?
“We weren’t tested much; they gave 100 percent and helped with the run.”
What about the kicking game?
“We never punted and we kicked inside the five yard line twice; we played a complete game.”
You play state ranked Denton Ryan Friday; what type of team do they have?
“They have an outstanding football team; they almost won it all last year. Their quarterback is super-talented. He committed to Oklahoma State University.”
What will you have to do to win?
“We have to get on our blocks; stay on our blocks and score some points. They are a big play offense; we have to limit those plays.”
How do you match up?
“We do well in a lot of places; we are going to have to be consistent and make plays.”
The winner will be guaranteed of a share of the district title; the game begins at 7 p.m.
